Introduction
The Family
There are four alumni of the Oenology faculty of the Horticultural University in our family: grandpa Feri who looks after the vineyards, grandma Klári the best teacher for the workers in the vineyards, Feri and his wife Bea the two winemakers. Starting from July 2013 Feri is the president of the Balatonboglár Winegrowers’ Association. Zsiga the younger brother is also an active member of the business as Head of Sales. The third generation, four granddaughters and five grandsons also help out in the winery.
The Estate
Two out of three of our vines are white. The most important varieties are Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Királyleányka, Pinot Gris and Welschriesling. We also have sizable vineyards planted with Chardonnay, Irsai Olivér and Sauvignon Blanc. The major red varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Kékfrankos and Pinot Noir. Our top of the range wines are named after the classic, elegant sailboats of Lake Balaton like Sirocco, Nemere and Tramontana.
Sailing
Grandpa Feri attained his license for yachts in the 1970s, he has cruised around Lake Balaton countless times with sailboats belonging to the fleet of the Ministry of Domestic Commerce. We have renovated a classic Balaton jolle 25 and sailed it until the early 1990s. From the 1980s the sons Zsiga and Feri raced under the colours of the Siófok Mahart SE, a club whose members at the time included the legendary Imre Szabó, a.k.a „Pempő”. The first ever Winemakers’ Regatta in 2011 was won by the Bujdosó family team with Feri as skipper joined by Zsiga and their younger sister Orsi. Besides the Winemakers’ Regatta they are constant participants of several domestic regattas including Blue Ribbon, and they also enter regattas on the Adriatic Sea.
